Girls still have to fight....

"...an anonymous group of feminist, female artists devoted to fighting sexism and racism within the art world..." This is what I came across as I started to research for those girls above. The powerful pic by George Lange represents them just perfectly! Angry, yet in control with their posters and buckets on, ready to conquer New York's art foundations....

The Guerilla girls have gone a long way since they began to protest. It was in 1985 infront of MoMA in reaction to the exhibition "An International Survey of Recent Painting and Sculpture". 169 artists were featured; only 13 (!) were female...So 7 women artists got furious! Put on those gorilla masks to protect their anonymity and protested outside the museum...and postering campaign throughout the city was next. They keep fighting until this day and are considered to be a thorn in the side of the art establishment....

A THORN?? But what on earth are we talking about??? It is the year 2015!!! I know, I know....in this world patriarchical forms still impose themselves upon women's bodies...and minds. But it is the ART world we are referring to here!! People in art are supposed to be open minded and respectful to all beings trying to express themselves and others. Or maybe not??? So I decided to create a posts series dedicated to women in art and those who try to support and promote those women.....

As feminism is still needed today. In all aspects of our lives. Racism and sexism show their ugly faces not only among conservative minorities and certain cultures. Let' be honest here. We face it every day when we speak up about our rights on our body, in our working environment, in our own home. But maybe the world is starting to change? A small part of this world at least...

I would like to invite all you ladies and gents who love ladies to support and share your thoughts about the matter, maybe even your experienses?

Love to read what you think....

Kisses!
